'The Beach Track'
We are thrilled to introduce our latest Artist in Residence on the walls of Lon, local artist Andrea Shaw.
16th July - 22 August 2021
Open for viewing Monday to Saturday, 10am-5pm. No appointment necessary.
On my first few visits to Lon I started out by exploring the beach track, on which I got lost at least twice. I found these tracks leading from Lon to the beach to be really varied and inspiring so decided to focus the works for this exhibition purely on that section of the property.
There was a sense of immense solitude on that private track, I never shared those moments spent out there with another person, just the elements and the shapes and hues I witnessed changing from visit to visit amidst the dunes, shrubbery and windswept moonahs.
My aim for these works is to be a simple and honest response to that beautiful coastal landscape.
Andrea Shaw is a multidisciplinary visual artist and surface pattern designer living and working on the Victorian Surf Coast.
Drawing from her studies in landscape architecture and textile design, strong relationships between colour, pattern, space and landscape inform her works.
Andrea’s painted works are abstract representations of the landscape that surrounds her. Mostly painted from memory or quick sketches done out on walks her works are dynamic, playful snapshots responding to the ever changing and vivid colours and forms within and beyond the landscape.
Andrea graduated with a BA in Textile Design from RMIT in 2008 and works as a Freelance designer alongside her visual arts practice.
She has had four successful solo shows in Melbourne and Geelong and has been curated into multiple group shows around Australia. She has also created window installations and wall murals for retail spaces and art galleries in Melbourne and Geelong.
Come wander the beach track and see these incredible works this July & August at Lon
